Acupuncture

Enhancing the body’s natural functionality to bring the body back into balance.

How does acupuncture work? The simple answer is that it increases communication of cells throughout the body through various signals and pathways. The intentional placement and insertion of needles stimulates nerve bundles, the extracellular matrix and the the “newest” organ discovered in modern science called the interstitium. Activation of these systems enhances and balances the immune and nervous systems to urge the body into homeostasis. Wherever there is pain, discomfort and disease, there is stagnation of blood and lymph tissue.  Acupuncture increases blood flow to targeted areas and expedites healing.

Scientists are revealing more all the time how acupuncture effects the body. For example, the insertion of needles increases alpha brain waves or “free meditation”  where the brain is relaxed and calm. Repeated placement of needles correlates to increased production of dopamine and serotonin and enhances receptors use of these neurotransmitters to combat anxiety and depression.

Using MRI imagery we can witness how acupuncture stimulates areas of the brain related to pain, then setting off a rush of endorphins to manage pain in the injured tissues.

“After over a decade of acupuncture experience, I am still amazed at how truly magical a set of well-placed needles can impact healing the body. I am more in awe every day of the results that occur.”

MARGARET HAMPTON, DACM

Acupuncture & Cupping

True holistic health comes from the free flowing of blood, nutrients, and energy on both the physical and emotional planes. With your feedback, Margaret can uncover where the blockages are that create disease and find a course of treatment to liberate them to reveal a deeper and more profound level of wellness.

In addition to acupuncture, cupping is a technique used to treat pain. The suction works on deep layers of muscle and fascia where blood flow is restricted from scarring, adhesions or tears in the muscle(s). It is also useful for athletes and weight-lifters to draw out lactic acid in the tissues to expedite muscle recovery.
